Endpoint Protector Adds Centralized Control over USB Encryption

CoSoSys updates Endpoint Protector DLP with features to remotely manage and enforce USB encryption for Windows and Mac OS X

Cluj-Napoca, Romania - June7th, 2016: CoSoSys, vendor of Data Loss Prevention and Mobile Device Management solutions, today announced the release of the refined cross-platform USB Enforced Encryption from Endpoint Protector 4 DLP to boost the security of data copied onto USB devices.

Despite the benefits USB devices bring even in the age of cloud computing, lost and unencrypted USB devices represent a major cause of data breaches across industries. Recent research shows that 22,266 USB sticks and 937 mobile phones are left annually at the dry cleaners. Other places where people lose USB thumb drives include trains, restaurants, taxis, and more. Without encryption, data stored on lost or stolen USB devices can end up in unwanted places and in the hands of malicious individuals, exposing organizations and individuals to negative consequences.

"The updated Enforced Encryption can be a game-changer for organizations that have employees with access to and managing potentially sensitive company data," said Roman Foeckl, CEO and founder, CoSoSys. "This updated offering ensures the safe use of USB devices through remote management and enables data recovery in case the device is lost or stolen."

The USB Enforced Encryption update enables IT administrators to remotely manage and push encryption to USB devices on computers that already have the Endpoint Protector DLP agent installed. If this feature is enabled, each time a user connects a USB device, the password-protected encryption software is automatically installed. Furthermore, whenever the user tries to copy data to that USB device, the encryption software is activated and requires the user to transfer data to the encrypted container. Thus, if the device is misplaced or stolen, no third party can access data on the device.

Data can also be remotely deleted or recovered by the IT team in case of a lost or stolen USB device to prevent data breaches and ensure business continuity. To promote employee awareness and understanding, the new version of the USB Enforced Encryption enables the IT team to send personalized messages, including password change alerts, or other information to their devices. Simultaneously, alerts for security incidents, like exceeded limit for password retries, are available for IT administrators.

The update is now available with Endpoint Protector version 4.4.1.0, which can be found in the Live Update section of the management console.
