Why opt for the cloud-based DLP and MDM solution
Since we launched My Endpoint Protector, our cloud-based Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution, we have noticed several things about organizations’ perspective towards using this type of tool in the cloud. The attitude towards using SaaS DLP solutions mainly depends on the region, company size, industry, compliance and the organizations’ objectives when it comes to protecting data.
Organizations from regions like USA and Western Europe are more open to implement DLP and MDM in the cloud, while those from CEE, APAC and LATAM prefer to have the on-premise solution. The main reason is compliance, since there are several data protection laws that require data security solutions to be implemented on-premise. Skepticism towards cloud data security solutions also plays an important role. However, companies that do implement SaaS, report reduced costs, increased flexibility, scalability and overall satisfaction. There is also a cultural aspect involved, since USA and Western Europe have always been the first ones in adopting new technology and the NEW in general.
Organizations from regions like USA and Western Europe are more open to implement DLP and MDM in the cloud, while those from CEE, APAC and LATAM prefer to have the on-premise solution.
When it comes to the size of the company, 80% of our My Endpoint Protector customers are SMBs and 20% large enterprises. These numbers are perfectly justified, giving the fact that the cloud-based solution is a lighter version, compared to the on-premise one, and that SMBs criteria for choosing a DLP solution are usually time of setup and deployment and costs.
We also noticed that most IT Managers or CSOs fear the cloud because they do not trust vendors with confidential data that is stored on their servers. For a Data Loss Prevention solution, obviously, they want to make sure that logs are not disclosed with third parties or that no attacker could get to that information. They must also be aware of the deployment mode, if it’s a public, private or hybrid cloud.
In our case, My Endpoint Protector’s infrastructure is backed-up by dedicated Redundant Hardware Servers located in 2 different locations in Germany. With the purpose of ensuring data protection and integrity, all applications and services used by our DLP and MDM solution are always up to date. Moreover, all servers’ Operating Systems are instantly updated with security patches against threats like Heartbleed.
Fear of the cloud must disappear and, instead, the advantages must be embraced. Just thinking about the fact that even security vulnerabilities are resolved faster and instantly pushed for all customers should make a difference when in doubt of choosing a cloud-based data security solution.
In short, here are the key advantages for the use of cloud-based DLP and MDM
